Aonghus McCarthy (he/him) is a trauma-focused expert with a First Class Honours BCL and LLM in Criminal Justice, specializing in Criminology, Penology and Juvenile Justice. He is an award-winning Criminal Defence Solicitor who runs one of Ireland’s busiest Criminal Defence Practices. Being a care-experienced person himself, he has a particular interest in the rights of children and trauma survivors. He advocates for the most vulnerable in society with a view to fostering a greater understanding around the neuro-scientific impact of adverse childhood experiences on brain development and aberrant behavior. His goal is to reduce recidivism via the implementation of more trauma-responsive systemic interventions in the Irish Justice System and beyond.
